In a world pulled by modern distractions, many parents face a heartfelt challenge: How can we help our children cherish their native languages and cultural stories, not just as distant history, but as a living, joyful part of their lives?

Lipi.Game rises as a thoughtful, innovative response—a platform where India’s timeless epics, languages, and ancestral wisdom are transformed into playful, immersive learning for today’s children and families.

A Parent’s Challenge: The Growing Disconnection

Today’s educational environment often sidelines the classic teachings of Indian epics like the Mahabharata, Ramayana, the Gita, and ancient practical wisdom from texts such as Ayurveda and Chanakya Neeti. As a result, the invaluable life lessons and problem-solving traditions that once formed the backbone of family and society become distant or inaccessible, especially for young minds growing up in a world dominated by English and pop culture.

Lipi.Game is built for parents who want their children to:

  • Stay rooted in family stories and values
  • Enjoy learning their native tongues
  • Connect meaningfully with grandparents and elders
  • Gain wisdom through culturally relevant, modern tools

Lipi.Game’s Mission: Empowering Through Gamified Heritage

Sagar Anisingaraju

We are honored to present an exclusive interview with Sagar, the visionary founder of Lipi.game. In this candid conversation, Sagar shares the personal journey that led him to create a platform that bridges ancient Indian wisdom with modern technology. Lipi.game is more than just a startup; it’s a social impact venture born from a deep love for Indian epics, native languages, and the power of storytelling. Through his unique blend of cultural roots, technological expertise, and a parent’s desire to pass on timeless values, Sagar is making the profound lessons of the Mahabharata and Ramayana accessible and engaging for a new generation.

  1. What personal experiences or moments in your life inspired you to create Lipi.game and pursue its mission?

Growing up, I was always fascinated by the timeless stories and life lessons from epics like the Mahabharata and Ramayana. Over the years, during my technology and business career, I often found myself applying those teachings in real-life situations. Yet, I noticed that most global education systems rarely include these ancient epics or the profound wisdom they offer.

I was also an avid player of word games in English. But I always felt that speakers of Indian languages lacked access to high-quality word games in their native tongues. That was a missed opportunity—both for fun and for language learning.

Sensing this gap, I founded Lipi Epics & Wordgames as a social impact venture. Our approach is rooted in gamification, making ancient wisdom and native languages engaging, accessible, and joyful for today’s generation.

  1. How have your own roots in Indian language and culture directly shaped Lipi.game’s vision and features?

My background in Telugu and early exposure to the Mahabharata and Ramayana—through books, family storytelling, and cultural traditions—deeply influenced Lipi’s vision. One of the core features of Lipi is our visual storytelling model. I drew inspiration from the way our elders used to explain these complex stories in simple, engaging ways. I wanted to recreate that family learning environment through the app.

Another example: I realized many users struggle with typing Indian language characters due to complex scripts and conjugations. So, we built a phonetic keyboard that makes it easy to input text in native languages. That idea came from both my language experience and my earlier work computerizing Indian Railways’ ticketing systems, where I learned how crucial accessibility and usability are.

  1. In what ways does Lipi.game reflect your values as both a parent and a technologist?

As a parent, I strongly believe in the values of Dharma and the importance of duty, as explained in the Mahabharata and Ramayana. I want future generations to not just know these values but live by them. Lipi is my way of passing on that timeless guidance in a relatable, modern format.

As a technologist, Lipi is my dream project. Over the past 25+ years, I’ve applied advanced technologies—including AI—for enterprise and life sciences, helping accelerate drug development. Today, I got to use the same cutting-edge tools to teach epics to children and adults alike.

One example is Lipi’s Visual Guide, a knowledge graph built using a graph database that connects hundreds of characters, events, places, and objects. Our games draw from this rich data layer to create an immersive learning experience that’s both engaging and educational.

  1. Is there a particular story or life lesson from the epics that resonates deeply with you—and finds expression in Lipi?

Many stories resonate deeply with me, especially those dealing with moral dilemmas and decision-making. For instance, Yudhishthira’s internal conflict around Dharma, Arjuna’s doubts about his duty in the Bhagavad Gita, Bheeshma’s explanations of governance and ruling in Shanti Parva are all timeless situations that mirror the challenges we face in our personal and professional lives.

These stories are not just ancient, they’re practical. And through Lipi, users can explore them in interactive formats that spark reflection and learning.

  1. Can you share an anecdote where your interaction with Lipi’s users felt like reliving your own childhood or family memories?

Every day, we receive heartwarming messages from users—ranging from teenagers to seniors—who share the joy they feel while learning epics or playing word games in their mother tongue. Some say they finally understand stories they heard as children. Others say they’re now able to pass on this knowledge to their kids.

These stories remind me of my own childhood, when our family would sit together and discuss these epics. Lipi has become a digital bridge that revives that tradition—and that is incredibly fulfilling.

  1. Why do you see Lipi.game as more than just a startup—what part of your own identity or dreams does it embody?

India has gifted the world with immense wisdom—through its epics, its values, and its approach to life and Dharma. I believe this timeless heritage forms the core of our Indian identity.

With Lipi, I want to celebrate and preserve that identity, while giving it a modern platform powered by technology and AI. It’s more than a business, it’s a mission to ensure that the next generation not only remembers our stories, but also understands and lives by the lessons they teach.
